Alan Dershowitz is a Harvard Law School professor emeritus and prominent defense attorney. He served on Jeffrey Epstein’s legal team during the 2007–2008 Florida investigation and was part of the defense group that negotiated Epstein’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement (NPA).
- Joined Epstein’s defense team in 2007 alongside Roy Black, Ken Starr, Jay Lefkowitz, and Jack Goldberger.
- Helped negotiate the September 24, 2007 NPA.
- The NPA allowed Epstein to plead guilty to two Florida state prostitution-related charges and serve an 18-month sentence with work-release privileges.
- The NPA also provided federal immunity protections that later became a major point of criticism.
Public controversy and civil litigation
- In 2014, Virginia Giuffre filed allegations in court filings that Epstein had trafficked her to Dershowitz when she was a minor.
- Dershowitz denied the allegations and pursued defamation litigation against Giuffre and others.
- In a joint statement dated November 8, 2022, Giuffre stated she “may have made a mistake” in identifying Dershowitz. The statement said no money changed hands.
Additional claims in unsealed filings and witness accounts
Unsealed filings and reporting have included claims that:
- Epstein “required” Jane Doe #3 to have sexual relations with Dershowitz on multiple occasions while she was a minor.
- Dershowitz was an “eye-witness” to abuse of other minors by people in Epstein’s circle.
Epstein household staff testimony
- Staff including Juan Alessi and Alfredo Rodriguez said Dershowitz visited Epstein’s Florida residence for “massages.”
- Staff said Dershowitz was present at the residence at times when young girls were there, including visits without his family.
